No Router
« on: April 17, 2014, 08:56:00 AM »
Hi,

With only my Android Tablet, (4.2.2, JB) can I setup and use Chromecast in a location with no Internet and no Router? There is a nice TV with HDMI port.  :)

Good question.  I am not sure if chromecast would support an and-hoc network (android to TV direct).

You can buy a very cheap wifi router for <10 second hand on Ebay for example and try it.

You would only be able to cast local videos etc as you would not have access to internet via router.

Some internet streaming may be possible using chromecast friendly apps e.g. youtube over a 3G network (if you have a good dataplan)?

I read an article about an update that allows it by putting out a speaker tone that we can't hear but your phone can and coordinates a connection without using Wi-Fi router. Does anyone know anything on the progress of this development?
