Streaming movies from PC....Remote control ideas?
« on: April 15, 2014, 07:57:59 PM »
I use the chromecast to stream movies from my PC to another room and want to be able to have the ability to pause the movie.  Is there a way to control the movie with some type of remote?  I use chrome to play the movies.   Thanks!

If you have a tablet or smart phone ios or android, or even another PC/laptop, you can control PC running chrome session using a great package called splashtop (free of charge to use on a local network).

www.splashtop.com

You use the loacl phone/tablet like the trackpad on a pc (you can use other gesture based commands if you like).

I find it is most intuitive using it in PC trackpad mode easiest i.e. you move cursor using swipes on trackpad, and you tap on mouse left/right icons.

You can also use teamviewer (also free for personal use).

I find splashtop is better as it is less intrusive tha teamviewer.

When you connect using splashtop, if the host pc is in full screen mode, it leaves it in full screen.

Teamviewer leaves a nag screen when you exit teamviewer.  So you have to stay connected with your local device.

Splashtop only needs to be connected as needed.

This is a great way of using an old smartphone or tablet that has been assigned to the dustbin.
