wake me up Cast! Chromecast Alarm Clock
« on: May 17, 2014, 04:03:56 AM »
Hello guys,

i recently found an alarm clock for the Google Chromecast. I've used this and it works, but since it is in beta state i am using another alarm to be sure to wake up ;)
If someone is interested in that app you can find it at the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avadev.wakemeupcast&hl=en

Best regards
baum

Using Chromecast as an alarm clock seems overkill to me, I think I'd rather have the alarm go off on my phone or tablet rather than have an app on the phone "cast" the alarm to the Chromecast device.  On top of that, I'd need to leave my TV on for it to work.

Am I missing something?

Ok, thats is your point. I like the app and love it to wake up listening to my favorite song ;)

Hmm, have you setup hdmi-cec correctly? The app wakes up your tv from standby using hdmi-cec - like ps3.
Don't forget to disable the automatic shutdown of the hdmi-cec port and it could help to disable your television "search for updates in standby" because some televisions needs to disconnect from all external connected devices in order to search and apply firmeware updates.

What does using the Chromecast add to the equation?  I can already wake to music using my Android tablet or phone.  What do I gain by casting the music to the TV?  I suppose you would gain fidelity if you have a nice surround sound system attached to your TV but again, overkill.

I don't mean to rain on your parade but I just can't see the benefit of this.
