Chromecast Now Offers Native Android Device Mirroring
« on: July 09, 2014, 02:59:08 PM »

Chromecast now lets you mirror your screen natively via your Android tablet or phone.  No 3rd party app required.  This was a functionality that was discussed and promised during Google I/O a couple of weeks ago and now they've followed through.  Chromecast apps will now show a 'cast screen' option and Nexus devices will even have the option in the settings menu so you don't have to use the Chromecast app itself.  This is an awesome feature that makes your Android device and Chromecast even more powerful.  I'll be surfing my web and using my big screen tv while controlling it all from my Nexus 5 from now on.  The update is rolling out as we speak and over the next few days in both the Chromecast app via a 1.7 update as well as individual updates for various phones including the Google Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 10, Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 10 (2014 Edition), HTC One M7, LG G2, LG G Pro 2, and LG G3. Others will follow.

I followed an AndroidPolice link to 1.7 on my Nexus5 on 4.4.4 and was able to cast video and audio. Nexus5 got pretty hot, but it worked for a while.
I was thinking to myself, no need for the Motorola Stream anymore or Google TV !
This was done via Settings/Display/Cast_Screen.

Yesterday the Chromecast app updated from GooglePlay to 1.7 (same version I had side loaded), but now now audio will cast, just video. That is kinda rude. Hope its an error.
