Chromecast Officially Available In 11 More Countries!
« on: March 19, 2014, 03:09:21 PM »

Big day yesterday for all you Chromecast fans.  Google officially announced availability of their media streaming dongle in 11 new countries including Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the U.K.  In addition to the Google Play Store you'll also be able to buy the Chromecast at stores including Amazon, Currys PC World, Elkjp, FNAC, Saturn and Media Markt.  In the UK the device will cost a bit more than in the U.S. as it's priced at 30.  Pricing in other markets will vary by market but should be substantially below such competitors as Apple TV and Roku.  Google has also announced via the blogpost below that they are working with developers in each of these countries to ensure lots of content and compatible apps.  So if you're in Europe and have been waiting for official Chromecast support and availability now's your time to grab one!

Looking for a Chromecast-enabled personalized video news app? Class6ix just pushed out updates this weekend to support users in Canada and the UK. It's the same app available in the US, just with content sources specific to each individual country.

Do note that because of some licensing weirdness with Northern Ireland, those postal codes are not selectable at this time. You can still download the app and simply select a different postal code instead. All of the other postal codes should be available.

The app is free. Enjoy.
