Great news for those now and future Chromecast owners that have been looking forward to a way to stream audio and video from ANY app you happen to have on your device, even if it's not one of the officially supported such as Youtube, Netflix or the Google Play Store. ClockworkMod Recovery Developer Koushik 'Koush' dutta has proudly demo'd a tweak to the popular CyanogenMod ROM that has integrated Chromecast support allowing a user to stream ANY video or audio source on their device. Pretty amazing really.
As you can see in the video above all you do is start up an applicable video or audio player and a 'Play With Chromecast' notification will pop up. That's it. The stream will play on your Chromecast dongle. There's no need for individual developers to update or modify their apps APIs or anything as it's built into the Android custom CyanogenMod ROM. Now, it's also assumed that this version of the ROM also includes the ability to stream local and cloud files as he previously has shown
. Now there's no official word on when this modification will be made available but it's expected to be included in the latest CyanogenMod 10.2 build when it becomes available. Koush
