As a fellow Chromecast owner and gadget freak, one of my New Year's resolutions this year has been to do something that I'm guilty of not doing enough of over the past several years...backing up my hard drive on my computer and my data on my tablets and phone.  I've been looking for a good portable hard drive with a lot of storage space and this 2 Terabyte Western Digital My Passport model fits the bill!  Normally sold for $99.99-$129.99, it's on sale now on Ebay at the link below for just $79.99.  This is a BRAND NEW 2TB hard drive.  That's huge folks and is more than enough room to back up most laptop or desktop computers as well as anything on your tablet or phone (photos and music!!!) you might want a back up of.  Western Digital is also a premier brand of hard drive.  They along with Seagate make most of the hard drives in computers today.  The WD 2TB My Passport Portable Hard Drive includes USB 3.0 and 2.0 functionality for fast data speeds and is powered by the USB port of whatever device it's connected to.  No additional power needed!  It's the perfect portable backup solution.  Free Shipping as well!  Grab one at the link before they're gone!

2GB is now SOLD OUT but they have a 1TB for an equally great price and at least $10-$20 less than anywhere else!  Here's the link:

Google is making a special holiday push to sell as many Chromecasts as possible by including $20 in free movie credit on Google Play with any Chromecast purchase. (the $20 can also be used for apps, games or music)  This is in addition to the 2 months free of HULU Plus and 90 days of free Google Play Music which are also included as a promotion.  This deal works even if you purchase your Chromecast at a discount through Amazon ($32.49 plus free shipping) which makes the deal even sweeter.  Chromecast remains the easiest way to stream what's on your phone or tablet onto you tv enabling you to watch movies, play games and use apps in the comfort of your living room or bedroom while using your television's huge display.  Use this promotion to pick up one or two or if you already have one it makes a terrific gift for anyone that has an Android or iOS phone or tablet.   Hit the link below for the Amazon link to purchase your Chromecast before Dec 21 (to qualify for the freebees) and then go to the Chromecast Offers page to learn more about your free stuff!

Amazon has been pulling out all the stops as the lead up to the holiday season continues.  Today they've got a particularly cool sale going on for all us portablet device nuts who own tablets and smartphones.  This sale is all about portable bluetooth speakers which as you know are one of my favorite 'go to' gifts for the portable device lovers in my life.  They enable you to pair up any phone or tablet and listen to all your great music or watch a movie with much better sound quality than you would through the device's built-in speakers.  They also let you share that music or sound with others which you of course can't really do with headphones.  Some of these Bluetooth speakers are weather and even waterproof for the pool, shower or outdoors use.  Other are perfect for the desktop.  Prices are slashed just for the next few hours up to 70%.

Amazon's deal of the day right now is an awesome accessory for any tablet or phone owner and here's why.  Battery life is the one demon we all fight with our devices.  No matter how great a tablet or phone is, if we constantly have to stay around an electrical outlet, it limits our enjoyment of our devices.   It'd be great if we could all snap our fingers and presto...have 2x or 4x the battery life in our existing phone or tablet but since that's not going to happen anytime soon the next best thing is to have a portable and powerful charger that you can have in your backpack, car or bag that lets you charge your phone or tablet fully when you're away from an outlet.

That's exactly what the Jackery Giant+ Portable Charger Power Pack is and right now it's at unbelievable price...$100 off list for only $29.95.  With this portable charger which is light and small...you can literally charge your tablet TWICE or your mobile phone 4X without having to go and recharge the charger.  Just think about that.  You could take off for a weekend camping trip or day trip and not have to worry about being anywhere near a plug outlet for up to 2 or 3 days.  Just have a fully charged Jackery with you and charge your devices from it.  You can even charge two devices at once!  Now you would think a charger with this much juice would be like $100 or even $70.  But for $29.95?  This is a steal.   It's about the size of a small paperback book and works with both Android and Apple devices...anything with a Micro USB port.  At the below link you can grab one for that low $29.95 price in the aluminum orange color (which looks pretty cool) or you can pay $10 more and get it in gold, silver or black.  I just grabbed TWO of the orange.  It makes a terrific gift for students, friends, relatives or yourself and at this price it's a no-brainer.  Hit the link below to get one.

While this pic shows an iPhone and iPad the Jackery Charger works great with any Android device too
It even comes with a USB to MicroUSB cable just for that purpose

If you've been wanting to get a wireless bluetooth portable speaker system you could use with your tablet or phone but have been dubious about some of the no-name or chinese knockoffs (for good reason) for their dubious reputation or sound quality then this deal might be for you.  The JBL Flip Wireless Bluetooth Portable Speaker System gets top ratings from the tech literati such as CNET, Engadget and AndroidPolice with the latter calling it 'the best portablet bluetooth speaker on the market' and even saying it simply 'decimates' the Jambox brand in sound quality.  Sporting dual drivers with 10w of power and up to 5 hours of battery life the JBL Flip can be used both in horizontal or vertical position. It also comes with a nifty urethane cover that it slips into when traveling.  It connects to your phone or tablet easily via bluetooth and can fill en entire room or pool area with sound.  It's a great companion to you portable devices and these manufacturer refurbished units are 'like new' for almost 40% off list price.  If some reason you don't like it they take returns 'no questions asked' as well.  The JBL Flip makes a great gift for yourself or anyone you care about this holiday season that has a phone or tablet.  Hit the link below to grab one.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/rqFdNvxLjCY" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/rqFdNvxLjCY</a>

This past week Google introduced a host of new products including their new Android 5.0 operating system, the Nexus 6 phone, Nexus 9 tablet and last but not least...the Nexus Player.   So just what is the Nexus Player?  The Nexus Player is Google's answer to bringing all that Android has to offer such as apps and games, plus the internet, movies, music and tv content to your home television...but without the need to use your phone or tablet to access it as you do on your Chromecast.  So in essence it's a standalone hardware version of Chromecast to access all Android related content for your television, similar to how Apple TV is for their iOS ecosystem.  The price is $99...which is roughly 3x the cost of a Chromecast but still rather inexpensive as far as home video gear goes.

Now interestingly the Nexus Player has a lot of functionality overlap with the Chromecast and the company is continuing to make and sell both.   The Nexus Player offers a few things such as the ability to use a game controller, use a dedicated remote control as well as access Android content directly...and not just through your phone or tablet.

But at the same time you can also use your phone or tablet as a remote for the Nexus Player.  So basically both solutions enable to use your Android content on your television.  One does so through your existing phone/tablet (Chromecast), the other lets you do it without a mobile device (Nexus Player).   Whether you use one or both in your home will depend on your own particular device and use scenario but it'll be interesting to see if current Chromecast owners feel a need to get a Nexus Player since it does much of what the cheaper Chromecast does already, albeit through your existing device.

Let us know your thoughts on the Nexus Player in the comments and in the coming days we'll have a dedicated forum for the Nexus Player at www.NexusPlayerForum.com.  You can also order and find out more about the Nexus Player at Google Play.
