Welcome Pallen! Glad you found us. I think with the backlog of Chromecast orders there will be many a member who will be on this site, at least for a while, before they receive theirs. As for your 'crt' tv...I still have one of those as well in the guest room in our house. I think i'll donate it to the Smithsonian when it finally dies. LOL
Chromecast News - - Front Page Comments And Discussion / WSJ: Amazon Corrects Chromecast Wait Times: Weeks, Not Months« on: August 09, 2013, 07:34:29 PM »
A lot of Chromecast buyers have chosen to purchase their hot new Google media streamer from Amazon instead of the Google Play Store in order to take advantage of the free shipping that the retailer offers. The Google Play Store sold out of the Chromecast within hours of its introduction and ever since there has been a several week wait, which might also explain why customers are going to alternative sources. However, yesterday a lot of Amazon customers who have a Chromecast on order received a disheartening email claiming they might not see their purchase until mid to late October. This of course sent quite a number of them into a tizzy but we're happy to say that it was all a mistake.
The company, in an email sent to the Wall Street Journal clarified the situation and said ""We are actively fulfilling orders and all customers who placed orders prior to August 7 should receive their orders in the coming weeks,". Now this time-frame applies to those who ordered the device prior to August 7th. If you order today, there in fact is a wait of 2-3 months. We have to think the popularity of the Chromecast has to have taken the company by surprise, even though it was fairly predictable given the low price. The good news is that we're sure they've ramped up production and we see Chromecasts-a-plenty come holiday season.

Welcome to the #1 Chromecast Forum on the internet. Please take a moment to introduce yourself to our other forum members. Let us know where you're from, how you're liking your Chromecast and anything else you feel like sharing.
I'll start by telling you a bit about myself. I'm Rob, aka 'Babyfacemagee' or 'BFM' here on the forums. I'm an administrator and work on a number of Android and other mobile device forums on the web. I'm originally from New York but now reside in sunny Santa Monica, California. I'm a huge technology fan and ordered a Chromecast the day it became available. In my opinion, it's one of the coolest tech gadgets to come out in recent memory. So tell us your story...and see you in the forum!
Chromecast News - - Front Page Comments And Discussion / Developer Koush Demos 'Play On Chromecast' Mod - Stream ANY Video Or Audio« on: August 09, 2013, 04:01:24 PM »
Great news for those now and future Chromecast owners that have been looking forward to a way to stream audio and video from ANY app you happen to have on your device, even if it's not one of the officially supported such as Youtube, Netflix or the Google Play Store. ClockworkMod Recovery Developer Koushik 'Koush' dutta has proudly demo'd a tweak to the popular CyanogenMod ROM that has integrated Chromecast support allowing a user to stream ANY video or audio source on their device. Pretty amazing really.
As you can see in the video above all you do is start up an applicable video or audio player and a 'Play With Chromecast' notification will pop up. That's it. The stream will play on your Chromecast dongle. There's no need for individual developers to update or modify their apps APIs or anything as it's built into the Android custom CyanogenMod ROM. Now, it's also assumed that this version of the ROM also includes the ability to stream local and cloud files as he previously has shown. Now there's no official word on when this modification will be made available but it's expected to be included in the latest CyanogenMod 10.2 build when it becomes available.
Chromecast News - - Front Page Comments And Discussion / Droid-Life In-Depth Review And Walk-Through Of Google Chromecast« on: August 09, 2013, 03:40:21 PM »
The Google Chromecast has taken the world by storm and so it only makes sense that one of the first stories I should post on the site is a nice step by step overview as well as general review of Chromecast. Droid-Life.com did a nice video review that I've posted above that starts out with an unboxing of the device and a detailed description of both what the Chromecast does and how to do it.
While Chromecast currently works with Chrome, Netflix, Youtube and Google Play content it's widely expected to support a large number of other apps and sites real soon. Thus, the Chromecast potentially could be the ultimate media streaming device and for only $35 it's simply a steal.
